The most reliable responses to fertiliser N occur when the pasture is actively growing and there is an adequate amount of pasture present, i.e., the grass is 40-50 mm in length with adequate time (3-6 weeks) allowed between application and subsequent grazing. Nitrogen will not increase plant growth to optimal levels if soil temperature, moisture or lack of other plant nutrients is limiting plant growth.
