Hamadan- zijn handgeknoopt en staan bekend om hun robuuste constructie en duurzaamheid. Ze worden geweven met een techniek die resulteert in een dicht en stevig tapijt dat veel belasting kan verdragen. Hamadan- hebben geometrische en florale patronen. Veelvoorkomende patronen zijn medaillons, ruitvormen en gestileerde bloemen. Elke stad of dorp in de Hamadan-regio heeft vaak zijn eigen kenmerkende patronen en ontwerpen. De zijn vaak kleurrijk en maken gebruik van diepe roodtinten, blauw, groen en aardse kleuren. De wol wordt meestal gekleurd met natuurlijke verfstoffen, wat zorgt voor langdurige en levendige kleuren.
