A diverse, unprecedented gathering of more than one hundred stories, representing work by fifty different writers
As much a nineteenth-century American invention as the cotton gin and the steamboat, the short story emerged here with a range of innovation and a variety of styles and subjects that has still not been fully appreciated. Diverse, wide-ranging, and unprecedented in its scope, The American Short Story: The Nineteenth Century gathers more than one hundred stories by fifty different writers.
This first volume of Library of America’s two-volume collection of nineteenth-century American short fiction tracks the development of the American short story from Charles Brockden Brown’s fragments and Washington Irving’s sketches to Poe’s gothic tales of horror to Mark Twain’s humorous stories. Represented here by generous selections are all the major figures—Irving, Poe, Hawthorne, Melville, and Twain—as well as Rose Terry Cooke, also a major writer, restored to a place of prominence in this anthology with three unforgettable masterpieces.
Among the many unexpected writers in this volume are: William Austin, so crucial to the development of Hawthorne and Poe; the antebellum Black writer and physician James McCune Smith, whose sketches in his “Heads of the Colored People” series lampooned the pseudoscientific racism of phrenology ; Lucretia Hale, the author of the feminist fantasy “The Queen of the Red Chessman,” perhaps the greatest one-hit wonder of the mid-nineteenth century; Francis Parkman, whose early magazine fiction remains unknown today even to many scholars; and Fitz-James O’Brien, the author of such unnerving horror stories as “The Lost Room” and “What Was It?,” whose true themes and concerns twenty-first century readers, accustomed to reading gay fiction, will not miss.
Unrivaled in its range and textual authority, the anthology includes biographies of each writer, a chronology of writers and the American short story from 1800 to 1900, and extensive notes.

Dry glitter, not glue
Color: Glint Rainbow
This is dry glitter, not glitter spray. Will need glue for it to stick but it’s very pretty.

Fine holographic sparkle with smooth and even application
Color: Glint Rainbow
I tested this glitter powder several times over about two weeks while using it on my hair and along the cheek area for festival style makeup looks. The shimmer particles are very fine, which helps create a smooth reflective effect rather than chunky glitter.
The applicator releases a light dusting of powder, which makes it easier to control how much product is applied. I found that building it gradually works best, starting with a light layer and adding more for a stronger sparkle effect.
The holographic finish reflects different tones depending on the lighting, shifting slightly between soft rainbow colors under brighter light. It looks subtle indoors but becomes more noticeable and reflective in direct lighting or outdoor settings.
During wear, the glitter stayed in place for several hours with minimal fallout when applied lightly. I noticed that applying it over slightly set makeup or hair helped it adhere better and reduced loose particles.
With its fine texture, controllable application, and noticeable sparkle under different lighting, it delivers a versatile glitter effect for creative makeup looks. The quantity of the spray was nice and it was durable under the sun too.

Glitter Bomb
Color: Glint Rainbow
It gets ALL over the place and doesn’t stick all that well. Neat idea but it doesn’t work the way I would hope.

Great glitter body spray
Color: Fairy-Diamond, Color: Fairy-Diamond
So cute. Came with extra glitter, I’m assuming lipgloss you can make into glitter lipgloss, a funnel to help pour the glitter. Or re load your spray. The spray performance is nice. Might stick better with some oil before hand? But I like it so far. Worked 6 hours and still had glitter on me for my photoshoot. I sprayed perfume and then glitter. There’s no odor. The amount of quantity of glitter you get seems good for the price. Durability seems good so far but like I said may need some oil or lotion first to help it stick all day.

Troll glitter
Color: Brandy-Rose
Do not spray too much! This glitter is so fine that it dispenses easily from the puff part and you can easily make yourself look like Poppy the troll. We had so much fun with this for prom
