Introducing the DIGISTOR SHIPS Q80 2 TB Portable Solid State Drive, a high-performance external NVMe solution that brings PCIe-driven speed to your workflow with unmatched portability. Designed for professionals who demand fast data access on the move, the Q80 blends enterprise-grade security with consumer-friendly convenience. Whether you’re editing 8K video on a laptop, backing up massive drone footage, or expanding a desktop workstation’s storage pool, this external SSD delivers responsive performance, dependable durability, and a streamlined user experience. With its TAA-compliant construction, hardware-based 256-bit AES encryption, and a generous 2 terabytes of capacity, the Q80 is built to empower creativity, accelerate productivity, and safeguard your most valuable data wherever your projects take you.

  • Blazing external PCIe NVMe performance fuels rapid data transfer for demanding tasks like 8K video editing, large-scale 3D rendering, large scientific datasets, and professional photography. The Q80 harnesses the speed of PCI Express NVMe to shorten transfer times, minimize render stalls, and keep your creative pipeline flowing smoothly, even when working with multi-terabyte projects. Real-world workflows feel instantaneous as media assets, project files, and archives move with confidence from drive to workstation.
  • 256-bit AES encryption for data at rest ensures your information remains private and protected. The hardware-based security architecture encrypts every byte stored on the drive, guarding sensitive project assets, client data, and personal information against unauthorized access. This is particularly valuable for on-site shoots, field work, or any scenario where data security is a priority, while still delivering the convenience of portable, plug-and-play storage.
  • TAA-compliant design for broad procurement supports use in government, education, and enterprise environments. The TI-approved, Traceable Authoring and Acquisition (TAA) compliance helps organizations meet procurement standards without compromising on speed or usability. The Q80’s enterprise-grade features are paired with a compact, carry-everywhere form factor, making it an ideal addition to professional toolkits across industries.
  • Ultra-portable and energy-efficient—a compact, lightweight drive that travels easily in a bag or pocket, designed to minimize power draw without sacrificing reliability. The portable chassis reduces bulk while maintaining ruggedness for fieldwork with drones, research teams, and mobile editors. Energy-efficient operation reduces heat output during long transfers, helping protect data integrity and extending drive longevity in varying environmental conditions.
  • Three-year warranty with robust build backed by DIGISTOR’s support network. The Q80 is engineered for durability in real-world use, featuring reliable components and tested endurance for daily travel, studio environments, and on-location shoots. In addition to warranty coverage, DIGISTOR’s customer support ecosystem provides helpful guidance for setup, encryption, maintenance, and recovery, ensuring you stay productive with minimal downtime.

how to install DIGISTOR SHIPS Q80 2 TB Portable Solid State Drive

  • Prepare your host system by ensuring it has a compatible interface for external NVMe drives (such as USB-C or Thunderbolt-enabled ports, or a PCIe NVMe enclosure). Verify that the connection supports external NVMe devices and that any required drivers are up to date before connecting the Q80.
  • Connect the Q80 to your computer or workspace setup using the appropriate interface. In most setups, bus power from the host is sufficient, so no separate power supply is typically required. Allow the OS to recognize the new device; you may see a notification indicating a new drive has appeared.
  • Open your operating system’s disk utility tools. For Windows, use Disk Management; for macOS, use Disk Utility; for Linux, use your preferred disk manager. The drive should appear as an uninitialized device awaiting setup.
  • Initialize and format the drive according to your workflow. If you need cross-platform access, consider a file system like exFAT; for dedicated Windows workstations, NTFS is a common choice; if you’re primarily on macOS, APFS or Mac OS Extended (Journaled) may be suitable. Be aware that formatting will erase all data on the drive, so back up any existing information if applicable.
  • Configure encryption if not already enabled. The Q80 supports hardware-based 256-bit AES encryption to protect data at rest. Follow your security policy to enable encryption in the drive’s management software or OS-level settings, ensuring that all sensitive files benefit from encryption during storage and transfer.
  • Test the drive by copying a representative set of files to and from the Q80. Monitor transfer times and verify file integrity after a few large transfers. When finished, safely eject the drive to avoid data corruption and reattach to continue your workflow across devices or projects.

Frequently asked questions

  • Is the DIGISTOR SHIPS Q80 compatible with Windows, macOS, and Linux? Yes. The drive is designed for cross-platform use when formatted appropriately and connected via standard external NVMe interfaces. Ensure you select a file system compatible with your operating system to maximize performance and reliability.
  • Does the Q80 require an external power supply? No. The drive is bus-powered through its external interface, designed for portable use without a separate power brick, which enhances mobility for field work and travel.
  • What speeds can I expect? The Q80 leverages PCIe NVMe to deliver high-speed data transfer relative to traditional external SSDs. Actual performance depends on the host interface, enclosure (if used), and system configuration, but professionals consistently observe rapid file access and short transfer times in real-world use.
  • Is hardware encryption always on? The drive provides hardware-based 256-bit AES encryption to protect data at rest. It is designed to work transparently for users who enable encryption, offering strong security without adding complexity to daily usage.

Sturdy, high quality, and protective
Color: Green, Size: 15-inch for New MacBook Air
This is my third TomToc laptop sleeve. Each time, I bought another, less expensive brand first and returned it. TomToc offers the best protection in a soft-shell sleeve. Immediately when you open it, you feel the higher quality material and density. It’s not heavy, but it is thick padded and doesn’t easily bend with pressure. The zipper is built to last, sturdy, and easy to operate without that chintzy feeling from cheap zippers. If you pay attention to the construction, you quickly see why it’s about double in price. There is an inner pad to protect the laptop from not just drops and shock, but also from the zipper. The corners are reinforced and add extra protection. It is definitely worth double the price.

A sold, attractive, case.
Color: Navy Blue, Size: 13-inch for New MacBook Air & Pro
This case looks great, has a nice, lively color scheme, and seems to be reasonably protective and sturdy. I wouldn’t toss a laptop around with only this as protection, but I feel fairly confident in it for small drops. The fabric is easy to clean and has held up well. You can charge without taking it out of the case thanks to a zipper, and it doesn’t add much bulk, making it quite portable. All in all a good balance of protection, cost, and style.

I would rescue it from a fire even if it were empty. I'm kidding but I do like this sleeve a lot.
Color: Orange, Size: 13-inch for New MacBook Air & Pro
Fits perfectly. Superb padding. The corner padding inspires confidence-not that I want to test it! The orange color is-chef's kiss-beautiful. A perfect contrast to the midnight color of my MacBook. I could gush about that stuff all day. But you all want to know about the other stuff. Zippers: Two YKK no snag bi-directional closers for the main opening and a solo no snag YKK for the side pocket. Outside: Feels like tactical nylon type fabric. I haven't and won't intentionally test its stain resistance. But I suspect it would clean up just fine. Interior: A very soft microfiber like interior covering an odor free padding that is firm yet forgiving. There is a recess you push your laptop into making for a snug fit that, like I wrote earlier, inspires confidence. This sleeve is larger than some competing brands but seeing the recess in person explains why. Having touched on the size of this sleeve, it maintains the svelteness of my MacBook Air. Yes, it is thicker than some other sleeves, by a smidge. However the additional protection suggested but that smidge, that minute extra ish is worth it to me. The sleeve fits in my travel backpack, so that's all good. Lastly, I would consider putting a tablet or phone in the sidepocket but not anything that would concentrate the any energy that dissipates during a fall. Had I designed this product I wouldn't have included the side pocket. It's great for documents and thin things but the sell page suggests chargers. That seems like inviting risk. You do you.

Better Lips, Better Fit, Less Nonsense
Color: Black, Size: 13-inch for New MacBook Air & Pro
I tested this sleeve with a 13.6” MacBook Air (M4), and the difference is immediately noticeable. First thing: fit. This one actually holds the laptop in place. The padded “lips” in the corners create just enough resistance that you have to guide the MacBook in and out. It’s not a loose drop-in like other cases — it feels controlled. If I shake it, there’s barely any movement, which is exactly what I was looking for. Second: build quality. The stitching is clean and consistent — almost surgical compared to the wrinkled mess I saw on another model. The outer fabric stays flat, no weird waves or cheap-looking folds. The interior lining is softer and thicker too, so it feels more protective without being bulky. Third: structure. I even did a quick “real-world” test — stood it vertically on a mattress, zipper open, applied pressure from the top — and it held its shape. The other case I tried would have collapsed immediately. This one actually feels like it can handle normal use without transferring pressure straight into the laptop. The external pocket is simple but practical. It fits the charger brick and cable without interfering with the main compartment, which keeps the laptop fit intact. Only downside: I could do without the orange accents. A full black version would be perfect. But honestly, that’s cosmetic — functionally, this one does what it’s supposed to do. At around this price point, this feels fair. Not luxury, not overhyped — just a well-executed, practical sleeve that gets the fundamentals right. Bottom line: not perfect, but finally something that feels properly made and actually holds the laptop instead of just surrounding it.
