Elephant Hill Stone Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2019French oak Dark berry & plum Pepper & roasted nut Fine grained tannin "The 2019 vintage (5*) was estate grown in the Stone Vineyard, in the Gimblett Gravels, and matured for two years in French oak barriques (25 per cent new). Deeply coloured, it is a very graceful red, full bodied, and fresh, with vigorous blackcurrant, spice, black pepper and nut flavours, rich, ripe and savoury. Still very youthful, it's well worth cellaring to 2024+" Michael

"It’s hard not to think Northern Rhone when nosing this wine for the first time, but it is all Hawkes Bay with a baked gravel stone minerality, a core of dark red fruits, black currant and violets, baked plum and aged meats. The oak scents add breadth and complexity with anise and clove, smoke and new wood intensity. Fantastic on the palate with warmth, intensity and complexity. Flavours of dark berries and black currant, along with raspberry and spices invade the palate senses. Taut mouthfeel with tannins and back bone of acidity leading to fruits flavours that mirror the nose. Complex and lengthy a delicious wine. Best drinking from mid to late 2023 through 2030+" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Oct 2022
"Offering excellent fruit purity and perfume, the wine shows sweet cherry, dark plum, thyme, pepper spice and roasted nut aromas on the nose. The palate is equally satisfying with succulent fruit intensity and silky flow, beautifully framed by finely integrated tannins. Stylish and flavoursome at once, making it hugely appealing. At its best: 2024 to 2037" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Oct 2022
"Dense and quite oaky wine with cassis, dark berry, plum and chocolate/mocha flavours dominating. A rich and quite savoury wine, a complex syrah that can be appreciated now but promises to become even more interesting with bottle age" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Oct 2022
"Deep, ruby-red with a purple core, faintly lighter on the rim. The nose is enticing and gently full, sweet floral, blackberry and Damson plum entwined with vanilla, pepper and a suggestion of cured meat. Full-bodied, aromas of violet, Damson plum and blackberry have a concentrated core, unfolding cedar, black pepper and savoury elements. The fruit is dense with richness and concentration; smooth yet firm, fine-grained tannin structured an elegant frame, unveiling vanilla and black pepper. Lively, integrated acidity drives a long, sustained finish. This well-crafted Syrah is structured with fine-grained tannin, dense sweet fruit with excellent concentration and length" Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Reviews, Oct 2022
