INTRODUCTION:
Welcome to the Safely Clean Premises & Equipment in Hospitality Settings course. This course only includes a challenge assessment designed to assess your knowledge and skills required to demonstrate competence in selecting and using appropriate cleaning equipment, chemicals and protective clothing, preparing and controlling hospitality cleaning areas safely, and maintaining hygienic, efficient and environmentally responsible cleaning practices for premises and equipment in line with workplace and WHS requirements.
Safely cleaning premises and equipment in hospitality settings involves applying structured cleaning procedures to a wide range of surfaces, furnishings, fixtures and operational areas while maintaining safety, hygiene and presentation standards. This work requires workers to choose suitable equipment and cleaning agents for different tasks, prepare wet and dry areas correctly, control hazards through warning signs and barricades, and use chemicals and equipment safely according to manufacturer instructions and workplace procedures. This work is important because poor cleaning practices can create hygiene hazards, cross-contamination risks, unsafe conditions for staff and customers, damage to equipment and surfaces, and failures in the presentation standards expected in hospitality environments.
The course assessment focuses on your ability to select suitable cleaning equipment for different hospitality tasks, check that equipment is safe and clean before use, and prepare wet and dry cleaning agents in line with manufacturer instructions and WHS procedures. You will be required to demonstrate how you use personal protective clothing appropriately for different cleaning tasks and hazard conditions, prepare work areas safely before cleaning begins, and apply cleaning methods that minimise risks to staff, customers and the work environment while maintaining required workplace standards.
By successfully completing this course assessment, you will have demonstrated that you can select and check cleaning equipment appropriately, prepare and use chemicals safely, control hazards in cleaning areas, clean a variety of hospitality premises and equipment to required hygiene and presentation standards, maintain equipment and store it correctly, manage waste and chemicals responsibly, reduce environmental impacts through efficient cleaning practices, and apply the safety, hygiene, scheduling and manual handling requirements needed to safely clean premises and equipment in hospitality settings.
